"犬道場（Inu-Dojo)"

この写真はすべて2002年5月の3週間で撮影された。
ニューヨークに点在するドッグランと呼ばれる犬専用の広場では、
手綱から解き放たれた犬たちが走りまわる。
最初はおとなしくじゃれ合う程度だが、徐々に本能をむき出しに
して動き始める時、遊びは闘いに変化し、突如として普段は見慣れ
ない抽象的なケモノが浮かび上がってくる。
しかし犬はやがて疲れ、まるで見えない審判に指示されたかの
ように動きを止め地上に横たわり、飼い主へ戻って行く。
ドッグランは、ほんのつかの間、格闘場に変化しただけだ。
犬は昼と夜を行き来するように、ペットとケモノの間を行き来して
いる。
わたしはこの犬たちの行動を、スポーツを観戦するように観察
した。
"Inu-DoJo" is a series of 36 photographs focus on unleashed dogs in several dog parks located in New York City.
These images, all photographed in three weeks in May 2002, are aiming to capture the expressions of unleashed dogs. When they fight/play with each other on instinct, they show us unexpected movements and features. We can see the abstract, unfamiliar beings suddenly show up there.
Eventually dogs are exhausted and stop moving as if the unseen judge told them to do so.
When they lay down on the ground, they are ready to go back to usual life as pets of human beings. The dog run became a field for fighting sports for them just for a while.
Dogs are living in two different worlds like going back and forth between night and day.
I kept watching them carefully as a game of sports.
